Finished Dead Cat, Pictures of A Blind Hippo

What's been going on?  I don't think anyone comes to my blog anymore!  Oh well, it's ok, because I can just say "IT'S LIKE A DIARY."

That's public.  Yet no one reads it.  That's why I think blogs are silly sometimes because it's like "I don't write because no one reads, thus I'm grumpy about blogging and I won't write anymore, yaaa yaa yaaaaaa."  But it's not like that.  Because I've been knitting.  Secret things.  And if you don't want to know about it, it's OK, because it's a secret!

I'm making this yellow... sweater... with cables... that has 1/2 sleeves... and it's cotton.  That's all I can tell you right now, because I don't gots no pictures!

On the other hand, I've finished the crocheted cat (pattern found on
the most brilliant site in the world) and he looks just like how I thought he would <3 <3 <3

He likes to sit around and be dead.  I used to hate cats with a firey passion, and then one day I decided to get a kitten.  Because this girl I worked with brought a icrowave box full of kittens to work and I feyl in luuuuuuuuuv.  Dead toys make me happy tho.  Remember the circle guy?  Xs for eyes equals very neat.  Oh, the variety of emotions!  Drunk!  Crazy!  Sad!  Doesn't it sound lovely?

And here's the hippo amigurumi I made eons ago.  I never put eyes on him, but I think his nose makes up for all that lack of beingabletoseestuffs.

I got the pattern from when roxycraft.com had all those FREE amigurumi animal patterns posted, and now, all of a sudden, THEY DIDN'T EVEN EXIST or something because I can't find them anywhere on the internets.  I have secret, rare amigurumi patterns.  MMM SECRET.

MY ZANY LITTLE LIFE IN A NUTSHELL

HEY.  I JUST WROTE THIS, LIKE, AMAZING ENTRY AND I LOST IT.  Well, not really, because I was previewing and guess what, I KNOW HOW TO ctrl+c and ctrl+v omgzlolcats:

Hey, babies, I got some newz:

ONE I moved AGAIN into a new place, a little guest house with my brudda.  It's nice and little and blue and white and I get my very.  own.  BEDROOM.  YESSSSSSS
(and this means I moved out from living with Pat, which is a whole wormy story in it's own)

TWO I started crocheting up an effing storm, like scarves and cats and little creatures and blankets that are six and a half feet tall.  It's a mad house!

THREE I started knitting (AGAIN) and I think I'm getting tendonitis in my right hand from just... controlling... the left needle and rolling balls of yarn or... something.  But I know it's knitting related. (Damn you, craft!)

FOUR I won a photo scholarship which MEANS I'm unemployed which MEANS I'm a happy, happy girl. *eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!*

FIVE I've been thinkin'... about gettin' a... a TATTOO.  I'm shopping around!  And I have a good idea of what I want it to be, just need to sketch it out nicely (hint: knitting).

SIX Something awfully exciting happened today ;)

SEVEN I HAVE PEEECTURES TO SHOW YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!

And a nice little coaster.  Because I realized that coasters are the new "it" thing, even if mine looks like it belongs in gramma's bedroom and NOT UNDER A FANCY WINE GLASS.  That's just how it is in my wacky little world.

Sorry about the in-your-face yellow shirt.

And HEY -- is anyone else on ravelry that I don't know about?  Because, well, if you ain't on ravelry, you ain't nothin'...  ok, I'm overdoing it, but ravelry is seriously the reason that I'm back into knitting and crocheting again.  AND AMIGURUMI.  I just finished the Amineko cat (guess where I found it??) though he needs a face.  Right now, he's a faceless android cat, so I'll sex him up with a face and some pix later on.

I'M SO SORRY I BARELY BLOG ANYMORE.

My favorite new thing??????????

LOLCATS!

Me and Marlena are going to make political quilts and become rich and famous.  Git ready.

I'm moving!!

Which means that some projects are on hold for a little bit, buuuuuuuuuuuuut...

I finished knitting all the pieces for the Must-Have Cardi Turned Sweater!!  I blocked them all, and boy, does blocking do wonderful things >.<  They're all flat and fabric-y and nice, yay!

But lo, no pictures :/

HOWEVER I started on the vintage stripe crochet blanket and here's some pix:

This feels so retro, I don't know WHAT to do with myself!

This gave me an idea for hip stripey scarves for Xmas.  Crochet has a use!

The blanket is at about twice this width now, so I want you to imaaaaaagine the wonderous colors I've chosen for it.  Ehhhhh, actually, I'm sorta, kinda running out of colors, but I still think it can look nice and tacky and oh, so seventies.

And to give you an idea, this blankets height?  About 7 feet high.  Why do I do these things to myself?

So me and boyfriend Pat will be moving the Chimichanga experience (our band, if you didn't know!) about a mile or two from where we are now.

A quick word about our summer fun band -- we may be having a show at a local Anarchist venue in Tucson on July 7th!  Crazy, right?!  We need to upload a myspace with our music (we need to record good versions of our songs we have down) and just get some pictures up and see if we're A-OK for those rule-dodging youngsters!  Much fun.  I've never been in a BAND like this and never played drums in front of an audience, so this is a big thing for me.  Pictures of that will be posted when it happens!!

Now, tomorrow, we sign the lease for a year, give them our deposit and pet deposit, and see when we can start moving stuff in.  It might not seem like it, but

I'M.  SO.  EXCITED!!!!!!!!

No joke, I love moving and I love decorating even more.  I love putting things on shelves and putting couches in different places and, and, and... OK, I'm all right, but you get the idea.  EEEEEEE!  I usually wouldn't be so stoked, I guess, but it's in a better neighborhood (not right next to the bum-park (ie, the park that was infested with bums who would lock us in our own front yard (long story) and knock our gate over when it was broken just for fun and try to creepily keep up conversations with us through an open window at 3 a.m. -- while we were sleeping.  Also a long story.)).  Anyways, it's overall a better place I think.  No carpet, which I'm VERY glad for (rental places seem to always have shitty brown shag rug and stains everywhere, aimirite?) and is a cute '50s construction.

I'll show some decorating pictures later.

Oh yeah! KNITTING TOO!

Wish me luck on the house, and, oye, on that blanket that will take me years...

GUESS WHO'S STILL ALIVE??!

I AM!

I'm also still KNITTING and, OK, I'm sorry, it's been a long, long while.  I don't know what happened.  Actually, I do, and school happened, as well as roommte troubles, breakups, new relationships, new things, yaddah yaddah yah.

Today I got a new camera, a Canon SD1000 to be exact.  It's a boxy little sweetheart and works nice with 7.1 megapixels.  Yeah, it means PICTURES!

Here's some knitting stuff I been doin'.

First, there's the Ballet Sweater from god knows what issue of Interweave Knits.

Turned out a leetle bit "stubbier" than I thought, but I also just dug it out of a box and we made peace with each other. :)

Pop!

It was a boring stockinette project, what can i say!?  But there it is, voila.
My local yarn store just shut down (as did a couple others) and I made it to their close-out sales.  Got some sweet wool at half price, and a lot of it.  Three sweaters worth at least!  I also found the Paton's pattern booklet with the Must Have Cardi in it and decided to knit that sucka!  Thar she blows:

CABLES!

I'm pretty much done with the back, now I have to cast on for the front, and I plan on altering the pattern a lot.  As in, I'm turning it into a sweater, and I must have it (har har).
Don'tcha think it'll look way better?  To me the original pattern looks like an old man sweater.  Or like I should be fishing or riding a bike in England.  And I like in THE CITY so I'm goin' for fashionable and cute.  I.  Love.  Cute.

Here's some other thangs that been happenin:

I have this boyfriend, Pat, who I'm totally proud of.  He plays guitar like he's a Hendrix reincarnate.

I play drums now!

Pat and me have created a summer fun band called "Chimichanga" and we fucking rock.

We can play at your party.

We went to San Francisco so I could show him the goods of my home town.  Way fun!  I'll post pictures later.

Me and Pat live together and I lost a friend over it because we all lived together.  A very Real World era.

I got hit by A CAR in February.  It was crazy.  No broken bones or anything, just major road rash, and I have scars from where I skidded along the asphalt.  So, look both ways for the love of god.

I'll be back to show you more pictures of the San Francisco trip and hopefully more progress on the Must Have...

Alteration Nation

So I went to Mexico!!  Went with my BFF Angie who I met in 6th grade and we're still best buds today.  Traveled by bus to Guaymus, and then from there to San Carlos & Miramar.  GOOD TIMES.  And yes, that's a pina colada.  And I do like getting caught in the rain.

But the main reason I wanted to post this picture was to show you guys that bitchin' alterations I did to my ex frump-o thrift store tee!  AIN'T IT SWELL!?

Yummy Pina Colada!

Also, an update on the list:
% I learned how to apply eyeliner finally (even if that picture doesn't suffice)
% I went to Mexico!
% I leanred how to operate my sewing machine properly! (See awesome shirt, YEAH!)
% I had no access to coffee while in Mexico, so my 1 week without coffee is up!

And actually, I think I might try to not drink coffee religiously like I used to because, well, I work at a cafe for one, and I don't need it like I used to (plus no headaches!).

Baby Cardi Bluez

This thing is so hard to finish.  I've started it, but I can't find the nerve to just knit, knit, KNIT, K N I T, KNNNIIIITTTTT, until it is a field of stockinette and the skin from the tips of my fingers.

And I also made this hat for Max -- but it was too small... so I hadda make him another one.  You know what that means??  IT MEANS WE'RE HAT TWINS.

Of course I added earflaps and soon the awesome earflaps will have POM POMS.  holy wow, i know.  Also, I've been in a huge Regina Spektor kick like nobody's bizniz, so guess what I did:

Happy July!!!!!!!

#20 accomplished

"020. Experience the wrath of a full-time (40 hr.+) job."

I did it!!  I got a job at Shot In the Dark cafe in downtown Tucson about 3 weeks ago, and within last Tuesday and yesterday, I worked a good 50 hours.  WOO-HAW!

Even though it felt like my soul was being gouged out with the tomato-corer and the gonzo fist that slices the cucumbers felt like it was shaving eyeballs, it was absolutely worth working 50 hours.  Plus tipz!  I LOVE TIP MONEY!  Does this mean that I'm comfortable with the idea of stripper?  Hmmm...

I need to post some tshirt pix but I can't find my digicam!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

love.

Where my taggers at??

'Sup kidz.  So lately I've lost any inspiration or motivation for knitting anything useful.  This is totally beside myself, so I'm not quite understanding why I feel compelled to make... swatches.  Not just swatches, but i-cords, strips, striped rectangles.  Well, let me explain some more.

That's right, you guys...

KNIT GRAFFITI!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ain't it the swellest thang that's happened?  I've been wanting to do social art for awhile now, and I've always wanted to incorporate fibers in whatever I do, so this is it.  Me and my good friend Max went on the popular street of 4th ave. on a Tuesday night and slipped i-cords onto antennas and wrapped big fatty tubes onto tree branches and garter stitched belts to that yellow pole at the ATM.  The last picture was the first one I did, and is on the side of the building I work at.  Nice reminders.

SO, if you haven't, I highly encourage you to knit some graffiti and tag some shyit up, YO!  Seriously, it's even like giving a gift to the public, something you knit, leave it on a doorstep -- or preferrably, tied to the doorknob.  But to me its a fucking great feeling.

Oh, and since I've been knitting those useless things, I've started the first pair of socks of the YEAR.  Yeah, it's been awhile.  <3

Cupcakes, the beach, and other things...

Here are a few pix of what went on in the good city of Portland, OR, during my visit from May 17-31.

It was a wonderful trip, I had a fucking excellent time!!

Time to talk about the list.  So far I've got #080 down (haha, that was fun) and I'm currently working on #'s 001, 011, 046, 057, 091, 093, and 098.  I'll update and elaborate more (like, when I finish things).

But I will tell you... Salvia (aka, Salvia Divinorum) is a trip.  The local headshops sell it, which I find really odd since I thought Max was a cactus for a little bit... fun times!  Knit your little fingers to their little bonez, much luv.

My name is Nicole and I've been knitting since I was 13. I started when I lived in SF, CA, but now I've moved to Tucson, AZ, and the exercise seems asinine at times. We only get about 2 weeks of cold weather, so go figure.

But I stick to it, I'm too passionate about my craft to give up because of some silly thing like weather, school, work... It's all about focus and immersion.

I'm now a junior in college at the University of Arizona and rockin' it fuckin' old school. Yuhhh!!

It's all that matters.
